Obituary: Ronald ‘Ron’ Oppenhuizen, 81, Irons. 

Ronald “Ron” Andy Oppenhuizen, 81, peacefully passed away on October 27, 2018, at home in Irons, Michigan, surrounded by family. He was born May 3, 1937, in Zeeland, Mich., to John and Christine (Machiela) Oppenhuizen.

Ron enjoyed spending his time in the great outdoors fishing and hunting, tinkering with various projects in his garage, and looking for treasures at garage sales with wife, Sheri. In his younger years, he was known as Uncle Ron to a special neighborhood in Hudsonville, where his home united many friends and family. On July 12, 1985, Ron and Sheri Kleinjans were wed and eventually made their home in the Upper Peninsula for 20 years. In 2007, they moved to Irons and brought grandchildren Hailea and Ethan with them.

Ron was preceded in death by his son, Andy; his parents; four sisters; and three brothers.

Along with many relatives and friends, Ron will be greatly missed by his wife, Sharon Oppenhuizen; son, Ronald Oppenhuizen II (Ronda) of Fountain; daughters, Cindy Oppenhuizen of Glenn Heights, Texas; and Sue Oppenhuizen of Escanaba; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A private graveside service with immediate family will be held in Hudsonville followed by a celebration of life at Ron and Sheri’s church, Faith Fellowship, 8889 West Six Mile Road, Irons, Michigan  49644, at 11 a.m., Saturday, November 10, 2018, with Dr. Duane Costello officiating.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Ron are asked to consider the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in Grand Rapids.

The Terwilliger Funeral Home, in Kaleva, is in charge of arrangements.
