A fund raising page has been set up to help with medical expenses for Bill Steckel, 55, of Fountain, who was injured Friday, Oct. 26, in a vehicle crash at the corner of Amber and Fisher roads in Victory Township. In a post comment on Mason County Press’ Facebook page, Steckel’s wife, Liz, reported that he had suffered nine broken ribs, a collapsed lung, and a fractured neck. “He is a tough guy and will recover,” Liz stated in her comment.

According to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole, Bill Steckel, was northbound on Amber Road Friday morning when he apparently failed to stop for the stop sign at the corner of Fisher Road. His Chevrolet pickup was struck by a westbound Mason County Road Commission grader, which had the right-of-way.

Personnel from Scottville Fire Department and Custer Fire Department used rescue tools to extricate Steckel. He was transported by ambulance to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital and was expected to be flown by helicopter to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.

The 60-year-old male driver of the grader was not injured.
