Gary Castonia

Obituary: Gary Castonia, 75, Lansing.

Gary James Castonia, 75, of Lansing passed away Thursday, October 18, 2018 at his home. He was born June 12, 1943 in Ludington to Iven and Beatrice (Arnold) Castonia. Gary graduated from Mason County Central in 1961. He went on to receive his teaching degree from Michigan State University. Gary worked as a teacher and counselor at Grand Ledge Schools for over 35 years.

Gary recently retired as a volunteer at the Salvation Army and Meals on Wheels. He also volunteered during voter registration and elections. Gary loved to travel with his best friend of 45 years, Bill Ellenberger. He was still active with the MSU sports and was an usher in the student section at the MSU football games.  He was a huge MSU fan!

Gary was the most thoughtful and kind person and he will be greatly missed by his sister, Nancy (Roger) Glamzi of Scottville, his twin brother, Larry Castonia of Dimondale, and his brother, Ken (Sandy) Castonia of Muskegon, his many nieces and nephews, his best friend, Bill Ellenberger, and his furry feline family.

Besides his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his sisters Lois and Jean Terryn.

A visitation will be held Friday, October 26, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Oak Grove Funeral Home in Ludington. A funeral will be held Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 11 a.m. also at the funeral home. Gary will be laid to rest at Riverton Cemetery. A memorial service will be held in Lansing at a later date.
