Obituary: Donald Jaynes, 80, Branch.

Donald G. Jaynes, 80, of Branch passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at his home with his family by his side.  He was born March 23, 1938 in Akron to Howard and Geraldine (Tobias) Jaynes.

Don graduated from Fairgrove High School in 1956. Immediately after high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as an engine room tech and clerk on a destroyer. He spent some time in Okinawa, Japan before being honorably discharged. Don worked as a truck driver for R&D and retired from Howes and Howes.

Don was an avid fisher. He loved to fish  the Pere Marquette River, especially Indian Bridge where he was a wonder to watch. He had the touch to reel in many steelhead and salmon.

Don is survived by his children, Julie (Scott) Davis of Fountain, Lisa Jaynes of Branch, Gregory (Crystal) Jaynes of Key West, Fla., and Alyssa (Benny) Mercado of Honolulu, Hawaii; his nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his sister, Virginia Hutchinson.

Don was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration on Don’s life will be held Thursday, October 4, 2018 at 4 p.m. at the Indian Bridge in Custer Township.
