Suicide awareness event scheduled for Oct. 4. 

LUDINGTON — Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital and West Michigan Community Mental Health (WMCMH) are hosting a free community event to learn about suicide facts, myths, risk factors and available resources. Lisa Williams, executive director of WMCMH, will be the keynote speaker with a presentation titled, “Destigmatizing Suicide: An Honest Conversation About Suicide.”

Additional speakers include mental health professionals Joshua Snyder; Karla Foisy; Jim Thomas; Michael Pyne,; and Althia Dalpolo, suicide support group facilitator.

The speakers will provide data related to local suicide frequency, complex answers to the question of why, blaming and cause, why we take suicide personally, and factors that contribute to individuals becoming suicidal.

The free program is being held Thursday, October 4, 2018 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. in the basement meeting room at Ludington City Hall, 400 S. Harrison St.
