Douglas Sturgill

Obituary: Douglas Sturgill, 56, Ludington.

Douglas Edward Sturgill, 56, of Ludington passed away Sunday, September 2, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born May 6, 1962 in Jackson to Edward Ray and Dorothy (Hutchinson) Sturgill.

Doug graduated from East Jackson High School in 1980. He married Tammy Lynn Spyker on September 7, 1985 in Branch. Together they raised three children. Doug attended classes at West Shore Community College and in 1995 received a degree in electronics. He worked for several companies over the years, and most recently he was a purchasing agent for UACJ Whitehall Industries.

Doug and his wife were members of the United Methodist Church of Scottville. Doug loved the outdoors, especially mushroom hunting, which he did every year. When most families would spend time and money on vacations, Doug and Tammy would be planning week long mushroom hunting/camping trips! It’s what they loved to do together most. Family and friends were everything to Doug.  He especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, whom he often would take mushroom hunting or camping. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and he and Tammy were big NASCAR fans.

Doug loved animals, especially the labrador retrievers that he and Tammy bred for many years. He also loved feeding/watching the birds and taking care of his dog Bella and cat, King Odipuss.

Doug will be greatly missed by his wife, Tammy; his mother, Dorothy (Frank) Bradley of Jackson; his children, Nicole (Kevin) Heidorf of Fountain, Amanda (Ben) Staples of Scottville, and Scott Sturgill of Ludington; his grandchildren, Madison, Miranda, Brooklyn, Logan, Natalie, and Breanna; his sister, Kris (Eric Miller) Sturgill; his niece Tessa Miller; and numerous friends and extended family.

Doug was preceded in death by his father, Edward Ray Sturgill.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, September 5, 2018 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Oak Grove Funeral Home in Ludington. A funeral will be held Thursday, September 6, 2018 at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home. Also a memorial service will take place at the Hampton funeral home on Ann Arbor Road in Jackson, Michigan on September 15, 2018 at 11 a.m.
