Patricia Hagerman

Obituary: Patsy Hagerman, 69, Ludington.

Patsy Hagerman, 69, of Ludington, passed away on August 30, 2018. Patricia Marie Kran was born in 1949 in Free Soil to Robert and Aldonna Kran, both of Lithuanian heritage.

She and her three siblings grew up on a dairy farm and Patsy attended Free Soil High School. After graduating in 1967 she attended Central Michigan University. During summer break following her sophomore year Patsy met Charles (Chuck) J. Hagerman, Jr., who had just entered the U.S. Navy. After a whirlwind courtship, they decided to marry. Patsy would follow Chuck, and she would finish her education later.

After spending 13 years in the Navy, Patsy and Chuck settled down to raise their family of three girls in Ludington. Patsy completed her education at West Shore Community College in the nursing program, graduating in 1986 as a registered nurse, not an easy accomplishment while raising a family and caring for a home. She was respected by her colleagues and patients alike.

After retiring she was able to indulge in her love of travel, gardening, and visiting with her extended family.

Patsy will be especially remembered, though, as a devoted wife and mother. She supported her children in every way, encouraging them in the arts–dance, music, theater– and in sports. She also engendered a love of reading in all three girls. She was present at every practice, game, and recital that her children and then her grandchildren were involved in. She loved her family fiercely. Patsy

also supported her husband, mother, father, and dear friends as they faced difficult health challenges. She was there whenever needed.

Patsy was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Chuck; children, Jackie (Dan Reeder) Thayer, Krista (Todd) Johnson, and Mary Ellen (Doreen Learned) Lang; grandchildren, Brianna (John) Crossman, Alexzanda (Tim Forbes) Johnson,

Emmarose Thayer, Brad Johnson, Josie Lang, and Haley and Andrew Reeder; great grandchildren, Kighlee Crossman and Alayna Crossman. Also surviving are her siblings, Robert (Betty) Kran, Janice (Jerry) Denby and Jeannie (Ross Schneider) Kettler; and several nieces and nephews.

Rest in peace, dear Patsy.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to the Michigan Braille and Talk Book Library.

Visitation will be held at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Ludington from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 4 and a service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 5. Patsy will be laid to rest next to her mother at Riverside Cemetery in Custer.
