SHERMAN TOWNSHIP — A 32-year-old Mason County motorcyclist died Sunday afternoon after his bike rear-ended a pickup truck on Reek Road north of Sugar Grove Road, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole. The man, who’s name is not being released pending family notifications.

The crash occurred early afternoon when a motorcycle was traveling southbound in the 3100 block of Reek Road, just over a crest in the hill, and rear-ended a Chevrolet pickup truck, driven by a 28-year-old man, that had slowed down for a dog in the road.

The motorcyclist was transported to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Sheriff Cole said speed and alcohol cannot be ruled out as factors during the early stages of the investigation, and toxicology tests have been ordered for both drivers.

Emergency crews responding to and assisting with the crash included Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, Fountain Area Fire Department, Pere Marquette Township Fire Department, and Life EMS.
