LUDINGTON — A 23-year-old Hamlin Township man with a lengthy criminal history was sentenced in 51st Circuit Tuesday, June 12, to 47 months to 15 years in prison for a conviction of second-offense breaking and entering.

Cody Morgan Denton, of 2630 Sherman Rd., was also sentenced to two to seven-and-a-half years in prison Tuesday for a conviction of second-offense larceny of firearms.

Denton and co-defendant Stacy Marie Green, 35, of 2916 Trepanier Dr., Hamlin Township, stole a handgun and money from Quinn’s Towing on West US 10-31 in Amber Township last September.

Mason County Prosecutor Paul Spaniola said Denton has seven prior felonies, seven misdemeanors and a significant juvenile record.

Denton is currently serving one year and one day to four years in prison for a heroin possession conviction in Mason County. His new sentences run concurrently to each other as well as the current term he is serving, said Judge Susan K. Sniegowski.

Denton received credit for 211 days served in jail.

“He’s been incarcerated most of his adult life,” said his attorney Douglas Stevenson.

“It never would have occurred if it wasn’t for the other individual,” Stevenson said of Green.

“All of this was drug-induced,” Denton told the judge.

“She said she was mad at them and wanted to take money from them because she was fired,” he previously testified.

“It was her idea,” he said. Green had a key to a cabinet where the money was stored, he said. “She said she wanted me there in case anything went wrong.”

“Mr. Denton, you have been in front of this court on multiple occasions,” Sniegowski said. “You were actively involved in this crime whether you’re a follower or leader.”

The judge said Denton has been offered drug treatment many times, but has not followed through.

Green pleaded guilty last November to breaking and entering with intent. Sentencing guidelines in her case are 0-11 months, said Mason County Prosecutor Paul Spaniola. A review hearing is set for July 10 at 1:30 p.m.
