FREE SOIL TOWNSHIP — A two vehicle crash north of the intersection of US 31 and Free Soil Road resulted in major damage to both vehicles but minor injuries to the six people involved.

The crash occurred about 7 p.m. when a Toyota Camry, driven by a 45-year-old Rochester Hills man attempted to make a left turn from the Orchard Market driveway onto US 31, and turned into the path of a northbound Toyota Highlander SUV, driven by a 76-year-old Traverse City woman. Mason County Sheriff Sgt. John Balowski said the crash was nearly head-on.

The driver of the Highlander suffered minor injuries. Two people occupied the Highlander and four people occupied the Camry.

The crash caused US 31 to be reduced to one lane.

Balowski said the driver of the Camry was being cited for failure to yield the right-of-way.

Responding to the scene were Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Grant Township Fire and Rescue, Free Soil/Meade Fire Department, and Life EMS ambulance.
