Scottville commission hears marijuana dispensary presentation.

SCOTTVILLE — Dan Reynolds of CANNACare Group, LLC spoke to the commission about his plan to place a medical marijuana grow facility in the former Nichols Drug Store building, 112 S. Main St. Reynolds said the building would include the corporation headquarters along with the dispensary and would create 10 to 12 jobs initially. He said his company plans on establishing a grow facility in Lake County’s Webber Township.

The Commission also heard a presentation from Tom Reif of Michigan Marijuana Licensing Experts, a consulting firm based in Bay City that assists municipalities navigate through the Michigan medical marijuana laws. Reif said he was speaking at the request of the CANNACare Group LLC.

Reif spoke to the Commission about his experience as the chairman of his local planning commission and how he oversaw the approval of allowing medical marijuana grow facilities and dispensaries.

During Monday’s City Commission meeting, Mayor Bruce Krieger removed his resolution to formally opt out of allowing medical marijuana businesses in the city, meaning the city takes no stance on the topic and therefore does not allow medical marijuana facilities in town. 

Members of City Commission and the Scottville Downtown Development Authority had listened to a speaker from Michigan State University Extension in the morning, during a special meeting of the DDa. The speaker was one of MSU’s experts on the Michigan medical marijuana law.

Krieger said that the city is opted out since it has taken no action, as allowed by state law. “After listening to the speaker this morning from Michigan State University, we have learned a considerable amount more information,” Krieger said. “We will seek even more information and perhaps draft an ordinance to control medical marijuana.”
