SHERMAN TOWNSHIP — On the fourth Saturday of most months, a group of men, women, and children gather at the Fin & Feather Club of Mason County, 3276 N. Darr Road, to relive a little bit of days gone by. They are a group of local Cowboy Action shooters and they shoot for speed using single action pistols, rifles, and shotguns that were made prior to the 20th century — they also mostly wear attire fitting with the sport as well.

Roger “Two Gun Troll” Lehrbass (everyone has an alias) is one of the organizers of the shoot. He said anyone who has an interest in the sport is welcome to attend. If they do not have the proper guns, members of the group are happy to help them out.

The competition involves several timed scenarios where participants shoot at steel targets switching back and forth between each of the three types of firearms.

The shoot won’t take place in May, but otherwise is held every fourth Saturday of the month throughout the year, beginning about 9 a.m. and lasting to about noon. For more information, contact Lehrbass at 231 343-2580.
