Prosecutor drops additional charges against Morton.

CADILLAC — The Wexford County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has withdrawn its charges of possession of child sexually abusive material against convicted sex offender Timothy Morton, 38, of Boon. Morton is a former resident of Mason County who is serving a five- to 15-year prison sentence for criminal sexual conduct against a then-minor member of his household.

Last Tuesday, he was arraigned in 84th District Court on the additional charges. This morning, Wexford County Prosecuting Attorney Jason Elmore confirmed that his office has dropped the additional charges.

“We elected to do so after considering the file, his prior conviction, and current sentence,” Elmore stated.

The additional charge would have been punishable by imprisonment of up to four years and/or a fine of $10,000, meaning if convicted, he most likely would have served a concurrent sentence with the existing sentence.

In October 2017 Morton was sentenced in Wexford County’s 28th Circuit Court on the charges of criminal sexual conduct against a child between the ages of 13 to 16. The crime took place over an eight year period, which included a time when Morton lived in Mason County.

Morton is currently at Kinross Correctional Facility in Chippewa County. His earliest release date is July 2022.
