Scottville to offer bulk refuse day for blighted properties.

SCOTTVILLE — City residents will have the option of bringing bulk items to a garbage truck at the Department of Public Works on West First Street on Saturday, April 28. City Manager Amy Williams said the intent of having the truck available is for residents whose homes have been identified for having blighted yards.

Williams said garbage bags will not be allowed and reminds residents that the city does allow for one bulk item to be placed curbside on the first Tuesday of each month. There is a fee to bring items to the garbage truck on April 28:

  • 1 to 4 items, $10 flat fee.
  • 5 to 10 items, $20 flat fee.
  • 11 or more items, $5 for each additional item.

“This is a one time event being done to clean up the yards of homes,” Williams said. “Persons who had their yards identified as being blighted were given a letter regarding this day.  In the letters that those homeowners received it was noted that failure to remove the items by the 28 would result in tickets being issued by our police department beginning on April 30.”

Anyone with questions should contact city hall.
