PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — A 63-year-old Ludington woman was transported by Life EMS to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital following a two-vehicle crash on US 10 near Nelson Road Tuesday afternoon, March 6.

According to Sgt. Jeremy King of the Mason County Sheriff’s Office, the woman was trapped inside the Chevrolet Equinox she was driving and had to be extricated from it using Ludington Fire Department’s Jaws of Life unit. It appeared her injuries were non-life-threatening, King said.

Her Equinox was broadsided by a Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck driven by a 27-year-old Hesperia woman who ran the red light. The driver of the pickup truck was headed west on US 10, and the Equinox driver was attempting to turn left off Nelson to head east onto US 10 when the crash occurred, King said.

No passengers were in either vehicle.

Also responding to the crash were Pere Marquette Township Fire Department, Michigan State Police, Ludington Police Department and Ludington Fire Department.
