Fire departments respond to trailer fire.

VICTORY TOWNSHIP — Fire severely damaged a single wide mobile home Wednesday night at 1525 W. Dewey Road. Scottville Fire Department, Hamlin Fire Department and Custer Fire Department responded, along with Michigan State Police and Life EMS.

According to MSP Trooper Matt Demny, the home belonged to Tessey Hathaway, who lived there with three other adults. The fire started from a wood stove, Demny said. One of the occupants initially attempted to go into the home to rescue a pet squirrel and bird, according to Demny.

American Red Cross was also called to assist.
