LASD desk disposal raises questions, superintendent explains.

By Rob Alway, Editor-in-Chief.

HAMLIN TOWNSHIP — MCP was contacted over the weekend by some concerned individuals who were asking why Ludington Area School District had disposed of several desks in a dumpster at Oaktree Academy. Oaktree is a private organization that leases a portion of the old South Hamlin Elementary building at the corner of Lincoln and Decker roads. Some of the space in the complex is still used by the school for storage.

Superintendent Jason Kennedy stated the following:

“These desks have been through multiple sales and have been left over from those sales for years. The District has been storing them, but is in a position where we need additional space for the creation of a robotics lab that we are creating in the old building and trades room near the Central Business Office.

“Three rooms at the Oaktree site have been used to store items, many of which have been in sale after sale, but are left over from not ever being purchased. Items that have been stored in the old building and trades room were moved to the Oaktree site over the weekend, and the items in one of the Oaktree rooms were disposed of to create room for the items that have not been offered for sale yet. This will allow for space to be created in the old building and trades room for our newly created Robotics program.”
