Janet Mathews

Obituary: Janet Mathews, 65, Scottville.

Janet Elaine Mathews, 65, of Scottville passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at her home with her husband by her side.  Janet was born on April 15, 1952 in Ludington, the daughter of Charles and Elaine (Lexen) Collins and graduated from Ludington High School with the class of 1970.  On August 24, 1985 she married Kurt W. Mathews at Washington Avenue Baptist Church in Ludington and they have celebrated 32 years together.

Family was the cornerstone of Janet’s life.  She loved staying home to care for her children and cared for several children of her extended family as well.  After the kids were grown, Janet worked in housekeeping at the Best Western Motel in Ludington which she very much enjoyed.  She also enjoyed bowling and working in her beautiful gardens at home.  Getting together with family and friends, often while playing cards or enjoying a great meal was always her greatest joy.

Janet will be greatly missed by her husband Kurt, her son Eric Riggs and wife Mary of Ludington, her daughter Laura Mosier and husband Craig of Scottville, her stepdaughter Katrina Genter and husband Pat of Ludington, her grandchildren Chase Petersen-Lemire of Ludington, Mattea and Molly Mosier of Scottville, Zachary, Ayden, Mayce, and Jackson Genter of Ludington, her sister Judy Husted and husband Dick of Ludington, her sisters-in-law Sandy Collins and Kathy Mathews both of Ludington, and several nieces and nephews.  Janet was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Elaine Collins, her in-laws William and Joyce Mathews, her brother David Collins and infant brother Charles Collins, and her beloved nephew Ricky Husted.

Funeral services will be held for Janet at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 24 at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Ludington with Pastor Ryan White officiating.  Burial will take place at South Victory Cemetery in the spring.  Friends may meet with her family for a time of visitation on Wednesday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.  Those who wish to remember Janet with a memorial donation are asked to consider Cornerstone Church.
