GRANT TOWNSHIP — Cody Allen Smith, 24, of Scottville died late Friday night following a single vehicle crash on Quarterline Road between Forest Trail and White Road. Emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene at 11:43 p.m. According to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole, Smith was traveling southbound on Quarterline Road in a 200e Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. The truck left the right side of the roadway and rolled several times, causing Smith to be ejected. He was found several feet from the vehicle and bystanders began CPR on him until medical personnel arrived. Smith died at the scene.

“Speed appears to be a factor and toxicology tests are pending,” Sheriff Cole said.

At the time of the crash, a thin layer of snow covered Quarterline Road.

Responding to the scene were Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Grant Township Fire and Rescue, Life EMS ambulance, and Mason County Victim Assistance Unit.

The crash remains under investigation.

A full obituary of Mr. Smith will run at a later date.  A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 29, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Oak Grove Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Ludington, with visitation starting at noon.  Visitation will also be held on Thursday, December 28, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m., also at the funeral home.
