Attempted murder suspect arraigned; max. penalty is life.

LUDINGTON — Marvin Lee Brault III, 27, of 2273 N. Tallman Lake Road, Sheridan Township, was arraigned in 79th District Court Monday on the charges of attempted homicide, home invasion first degree, and assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder/strangulation. Brault was arrested after the Mason County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint from Brault’s ex-wife that he invaded her home and attempted to murder her male friend Sunday morning by choking him, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

“The victim came into the sheriff’s office to report her ex-husband had allegedly broke into her house around 5 a.m.,” said Cole.

“The female victim was awakened to her ex-husband reportedly sitting on top of a male friend of hers in her bedroom, choking him to the point the male victim could not speak. The suspect fled the house when the female screamed. The suspect was located later in the day and arrested. The male victim, a 22-year-old man from Ludington, did not seek medical treatment.”

The incident reportedly occurred in the 2000 block of East Sugar Grove Road in Sherman Township.

Attempted murder is a felony that is punishable by imprisonment up to life. Home invasion first degree is a felony punishable by imprisonment for up to 20 years and/or a fine of not more than $5,000.00. Assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder/strangulation is a felony punishable by imprisonment for up to 10 years and/or a fine of not more than $5,000.00.

Brault remains lodged in the Mason County Jail with bail set at $750,000 cash. A probable cause hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 1:15 p.m. and a preliminary examination is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 11:15 a.m.
