Driver injured in US 31 expressway crash said he was smoking ‘meth’.

SUMMIT TOWNSHIP (Mason County) — The driver of a vehicle involved in a single vehicle rollover crash on US 31 expressway Friday morning told deputies he was smoking ‘meth’ when he lost control of the 2009 Dodge Caliber he was driving. Thomas Albert Genter, 38, of Rochester, Ind. was driving his vehicle south on US 31 expressway just north of the Oceana County line when he lost control of his vehicle which left the highway and rolled over. Genter was ejected out of the vehicle. The crash occurred about 11 a.m.

Genter and his passenter, Kimbberly Hecht, 46, also of Rochester, Ind., were treated at the scene by emergency personnel and then transported to Mercy Health Hackley Hospital in Muskegon by Oceana EMS.

Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole said deputies recovered a glass pipe with white residue from the crash scene.

Dispatched to the scene were Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Oceana County Sheriff’s Office, Pentwater Fire Department, Pere Marquette Township Fire Department, and Oceana EMS.

The crash remains under investigation.
