Obituary: Dennis Schwass, 79, Scottville. 

Dennis Robert Schwass, 79, of Scottville passed away Saturday, September 30, 2017. He was born March 6, 1938 in Riverton Township to Robert and Verlie (Murphy) Schwass.

Dennis graduated from Scottville High School in 1956.  He attended Ferris State University where he learned drafting, which helped with the home construction.  He married Barbara Rosenow on January 5, 1957. Together they had four children. He married the late Mary Elaine (Brownel) Dodson in November of 1974.

He worked as tailor at Schulte and Thompson for several years. He then worked for 34 years at Harbison Walker Refractory where he was an operator. In his spare time, Dennis worked construction, helping build homes in the area.  

Dennis was an avid fisherman, hunter, and traveler. He combined the art of sewing and his love of hunting and would often make one of a kind deer hide gloves, vests, and hand warmers. Dennis also loved his garden and building things in his yard.

Dennis is survived by his four children: Robert Schwass of Grand Rapids, Peggy Munson and Mike Maxwell of Cadillac, Daniel (Donna Borge) Schwass of Scottville, and James (Janice) Schwass of Deland, Fla.; seven grandchildren: Jenny, Robert, Naja, Darcy, Ryan, Matthew, and Roger; 11 great grandchildren; and very special friend, Sandi Nellis.

Besides his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his wife Mary and beloved dog, Murphy.

According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and there are no services planned at this time.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Oak Grove Funeral Home and Cremation Center of Ludington.
