Obituary: Virgil Carrier, 85, Ludington.

Virgil Lowell Carrier, 85, of Ludington passed away Thursday, September 28, 2017. He was born December 11, 1931 in Skandia, Mich. to Joseph and Agnes (Jensen) Carrier.

Before finishing high school, Virgil was drafted into the U.S. Navy where he served his country from 1949 to 1953 as a third class sonar man. After his honorable discharge, Virgil finished high school at Gwinn High School and went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in business, with high honors, from Northern Michigan University. Virgil worked for the State of Michigan General Telephone. He held many positions during his long career there.

Virgil married Patricia Ann St. Aubin on August 29, 1953. Together they raised three children.  

Virgil was a longtime member of the Beacon Church where he was very active and was a head prayer warrior.  He enjoyed hunting, walking, travel throughout the United States, cooking, woodworking and wood cutting.

Virgil will be greatly missed by his wife of 64 years, Pat; children: Steven Lowell (Cher) Carrier of Free Soil, Lynn Ann (John) Duvall of KauKauna, Wis., Stanley Louis (Lorrie) Carrier of Manistee; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister Pauline Duszak of Ferndale; brothers-in-law: Edward (Alice), Harold, Donald (Christine), and Henry (Charlotte); sisters-in-law: Mary Banderman, Beverly (Bernard) Czarkowski, Judy (Dan) Kuesis, Linda (Robert) Mason, and Charlene Holmie.

Besides his parents, Virgil was preceded in death by 10 siblings, and five in-laws.

A funeral will be held Monday, October 2, 2017 at 7 p.m. at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Ludington with visitation beginning at 6p.m. also at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions in Virgil’s name may be directed to Beacon Ministries.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Oak Grove Funeral Home and Cremation Center of Ludington.
