Bridge construction to close Decker, Stephens roads.

The Decker Road and Stephens Road bridges over the South Branch of the Lincoln River in Sherman and Custer townships, northeast of the Village of Custer, will be under construction starting Monday, September 11.

Construction will include removal of the two existing 25-feet long by 21-feet wide and 20-feet long by 21-feet wide single-span steel I-beam bridges that were reconstructed in 1976.  A new concrete box culvert will be 97-feet long by 20-feet wide and 8-feet tall single-span with precast concrete headwalls and wingwalls.

The $609,000 project is funded by the Federal Highway Administration, Michigan Department of Transportation and the Mason County Road Commission.

Traffic will be detoured by the contractor, Wonsey Tree Service, Inc. of Alma. The detour will include Custer, Sugar Grove, Hansen and Reek roads.
The project is anticipated to be open to traffic by Tuesday, October 24 and completed in its entirety by Thursday, November 30.
