Obituary: David Verduin, 74, Fountain.

David Allen Verduin, 74, of Fountain passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at his home.  David was born on May 17, 1943 in Grand Rapids, the son of Arthur and Christina (Hoffman) Verduin.  After graduating from high school, he served in the United States Navy as a Seabee during the Vietnam Conflict.  David also earned his associate’s degree from Grand Rapids Junior College.  On April 30, 1965 he married Sharon VanDenBerg and they celebrated 44 years together before she preceded him in death on April 24, 2009.

David worked for the Grand Rapids Fire Department, serving as a lieutenant and was acting captain for a short time before his retirement.  During his tenure he was credited with saving countless lives and received several citations and awards for his service.  After retiring, he and Sharon moved to their home on Blue Lake in Fountain where he was able to enjoy his love of fishing and hunting.  He and Sharon enjoyed traveling out west, wintering in Arizona and Texas and enjoying trips to Baja, California and Mexico.

Along with his wife Sharon, David was also preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Douglas Verduin.

David will be greatly missed by his daughter Amy Lambert of Scottville; his grandchildren: Joseph, Maria, and Laura Lambert; his brother Donald Verduin of Ludington; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and great friends.

A memorial service will be held for David at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 9 at the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Ludington with The Rev. William Huether officiating.  Friends may meet with his family for a time of visitation on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church.  Those who wish to make a donation in memory of David are asked to consider the American Diabetes Association.
