STRONACH TOWNSHIP (Manistee County) — A 52-year-old (initial story stated 42) Fenton man was taken into custody by Mason County sheriff’s deputies Monday afternoon after emergency personnel were called to a single vehicle crash at the intersection of Custer and Countyline roads; Countyline Road curves slightly to the north in that area causing the intersection to be in Manistee County, rather than on the county line.

Updated: the man has been charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and driving with a suspended license.

Initial dispatch information indicated two people were in the vehicle and one person was “slumped over.” The Pontiac Silhouette minivan struck a small embankment on the southwest corner of the intersection, however upon arrival, emergency personnel determined that the incident was technically not a “crash” but an alleged drunk driver who had driven off of the roadway; neither the driver nor his passenger, a 62-year-old Free Soil man, were injured.

Following a portable blood alcohol content (breathalyzer) test at the scene, the driver was transported by the sheriff’s office to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital for a blood draw to determine BAC.

Responding to the scene were Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Free Soil/Meade Fire Department, Grant Township Fire Department, and Life EMS ambulance.
