By Rob Alway, Editor-in-Chief.

LUDINGTON — A Scottville man pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance, heroin, Tuesday in 51st Circuit Court at the Mason County Courthouse.

Eric William Carrol, 33, was arrested March 2, 2017 by the State, Sheriff, Chiefs Enforcement of Narcotics Team (SSCENT) on US 31 expressway in Summit Township.

The charge has a maximum imprisonment of four years incarceration, however Carroll is a repeat offender, with previous drug convictions, and therefore the maximum sentencing is elevated to eight years in prison and/or a $50,000 fine.

Carroll was offered a sentencing agreement by Mason County Prosecutor Paul Spaniola for pleading guilty on both charges and serving a maximum sentence of up to six months up front in the Mason County Jail. He is currently also serving in the jail on a probation violation.

He is scheduled for sentencing on June 1, 2017 at 1:45 p.m.
