Obituary: Donald Goulding, 89, Ludington

Donald C. Goulding, 89, of Ludington, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at home surrounded by family. He was born in Steubenville, Ohio on December 23, 1927, the son of William and Minnie (Miles) Goulding. Don joined the U.S. Air Force right after graduation from high school. While in the Air Force, he attended flight school and became a pilot.

He married Marilyn Walker on November 10, 1956 in Adrian. They resided in Jackson for several years until they moved to Moon Island in Georgian Bay Ontario, Canada where together they enjoyed the islands for over 50 years. Don was so proud of the island they purchased and co-owned with his best friend Werner and his wife Irma Jean Sommer. Together they proudly named their island “Golden Summer”.  For 15 of those years they owned and operated Moon Island Lodge. Don was also employed as a corporate pilot for many years.

Don had a lifelong passion for the outdoors enjoying hunting, fishing, flying and traveling in their RV.  He will be forever remembered as being the “life of the party”.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn; children: Chris (Louise) Goulding and Colleen (Ralph) Avedisian; grandchildren: Kaelin, Taylor, Cierra, Shawn, and Bradley; great-grandchildren: Aaron, Cole, Harper and Emerson; sister-in-law: Mary Goulding; and nieces Ellen and Debbie Goulding and Barbara Loftus.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: William Goulding and Ivy (Bud) Loftus.

The Celebration of Life for Donald will be held at 1 p.m.  on Saturday April 29,  2017 at Lakeside Church, 301 N. Washington Ave, Ludington, MI 49431 with Pastor Cindy de Jong officiating.  Final interment will take place on Moon Island in Georgian Bay, Ontario.
