LUDINGTON – A 35-year-old Sherman Township man has been arrested by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office and charged with six felonies, including five related to criminal sexual conduct with minors.

Ryan Lee Herrera, 3376 N. Custer Road (address listed as of July 2016), was arrested as a result of a three-week investigation conducted by the Scottville Police Department and MCSO. Herrera was arrested following a traffic stop by deputies on US 10-31 in Amber Township.

The charges allege Herrera provided marijuana to a child in exchange for sexual acts on numerous occasions over the past several months.

Herrera has been charged with: two counts of criminal sexual conduct first-degree (person under 13, defendant 17 years of age or older), which is a felony punishable by up to life in prison with a mandatory minimum of 25 years; possession of child sexually abusive material, a felony punishable by up to four years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine; controlled substance delivery/manufacurating of marijuana, a felony punishable by up to four years in prison and/or a $20,000 fine; controlled substance maintaining a drug house, a high-court misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in prison and/or a $25,000 fine; and two counts of accosting children for immoral purposes, felonies punishable by up to four years in prison and/or a $4,000 fine.

The first two counts also have a second-offense notice while counts six and seven have a habitual offender notice.

Herrera was arraigned in 79th District Court with a bond of $500,000 on the CSC charges and another bond of $50,000 on the habitual offender charges. He is lodged in the Mason County Jail.

On June 18, 2016, Herrera was arrested by MCSO for controlled substance possession – marijuana, improper transport of medical marijuana, and driving while license suspended (DWLS). In August, the charges were dismissed in 79th District Court. Court records state, “The defendant pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.”
