SHERIDAN TOWNSHIP — Fire destroyed a house at 2290 N. 34th St. early Thursday morning. Fountain Area and Branch Township fire departments were called to the house about 3:45 a.m. Initial dispatch reports stated that the occupant said the house was filling up with smoke. Shortly after the fire departments were dispatched, an update stated that flames were showing. Sheriff deputies, arriving first on scene, reported the house was fully engulfed. Custer Fire Department was also dispatched to assist.

The home was occupied by Brandon Jablonski and some guests at the time of the fire, according to firefighters on scene. Everyone was able to get out safely, along with two dogs and a cat. An additional cat was unaccounted for. Jablonski was renting the house, which is located on a dead-end street between Round Lake and Tallman Lake.

Branch Fire Chief Steve McVicker said the fire appeared to have started on the southwest side of the house, possibly near the wood stove.

Also responding to the scene was the Fountain Area Fire Department Auxiliary.

Firefighters were still on scene at time of posting, 5:45 a.m.
