Lighthouse volunteers needed for 2017 season.

LUDINGTON — Sable Point Lighthouse Keepers Association is looking for volunteers to be lighthouse keepers next summer. The SPLKA is a nonprofit organization that manages four western Michigan lighthouses: Big Sable Lighthouse in the Ludington State Park, the Ludington North Breakwater Light, Little Sable Point Lighthouse in Silver Lake State Park near Mears, and White River Light Station near Montague.

SPLKA has summer openings for volunteer keepers at Big Sable Lighthouse, Ludington North Breakwater Light, and Little Sable Point Lighthouse.

Volunteers serve for two week tours at Big Sable and one week tours at the other two lights. Duties include greeting guests,  selling the tower climbs, running the gift shop and helping guests with other needs.

For local residents and those not wishing for a long commitment SPLKA offers half day or full day keeper positions on Mondays and Thursdays at both Little Sable and the Ludington North Breakwater lighthouses. SPLKA provides housing for one week or two week long stays, training for all positions along with the opportunity to enjoy visitors from all over the world.

For more information contact Rachel Bendele at splkaoperations@gamail.com, 231-845-7417 or visit owww.splka.org.
