LUDINGTON — Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital will hold a free event to help people enroll for health care insurance coverage under the federal Affordable Care Act. The event will be held Saturday, December 3, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the hospital’s main lobby.

Certified enrollment experts from Spectrum Health will be on hand to answer questions and assist people in signing up for one of the plans available through the Health Insurance Marketplace created under the federal legislation.  A District #10 Health Department expert will be on hand to discuss options under the Healthy Michigan Medicaid expansion program and a Medicare/Medicaid Assistance Program counselor will be available to assist seniors with questions.

Deadlines approaching

“Deadlines are fast approaching for 2017 marketplace coverage,” said Rhonda Hedlund, patient access supervisor for Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital. “We want to do everything we can to help as many people as possible to obtain their insurance coverage.

“To get marketplace coverage starting January 1, it’s necessary to sign up, renew or change your plan before December 15. The final deadline for obtaining coverage during 2017 is January 31. After that date you can’t purchase marketplace health coverage for 2017 unless you experience a qualifying life event for special enrollment.”

For the Healthy Michigan plan, enrollment is open year-round.

On-site experts will answer questions and help people sift through coverage options. They will also be able to guide attendees through the enrollment process to get their coverage started as soon as possible.

Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital is located on Ludington Avenue (US 10) in Ludington.  Call 231-845-5567 for more information.
