L. Jane Ayers, 87, of Ludington passed away on Monday October 31, 2016 at home surrounded by her family.

She was born on August 9, 1929 in Ludington, daughter of the late Robert L. Weir and Luella Sue (McKenna) Shong.  Jane attended Ludington High School, and graduated with the class of 1947.

Jane married Robert E. Ayers on September 15, 1951 in Ludington.  He preceded her in death on June 14, 2015.  She was a charter member of the Ludington Jaycees Auxiliary, active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where she was involved in many activities and served on various church boards.  She also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, and especially enjoyed watching her family participate in various sporting activities.  She enjoyed gathering with family and friends whether it was to share a meal or work on a puzzle.

Jane is survived by her son, Robert (Maureen) Ayers, Jr. of Grand Rapids; two daughters: Julie (Roger) Chappel of Ludington, and Janice (Gary) Palis of Canton; eight grandchildren: Mark, Steven and Allison Ayers, Aaron Chappel, Sarah (Noah) Laird, Vicki (Mark) Mitchell, and Jessica and Randy Palis; four great-grandchildren: Keelyn and Jaelyn Laird and Brooke and Megan Mitchell; brother, Robert Weir of Ludington; two sisters-in-law: Evelyn Ayers of Ludington and Helen Bortel of Montague; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; and step-sister, Pat Cruickshank.

Funeral services for Jane will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday November 4, 2016 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ludington with Pastor Thomas Boehne officiating.  The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday November 3, 2016 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Ludington and again on Friday morning at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service.  Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Ludington.
