BRANCH TOWNSHIP — A 33-year-old Sheridan Township woman was ticketed after she crashed her vehicle into a travel trailer Thursday night at the corner of US 10 and Benson Road. The crash occurred when a Chrysler PT Cruiser, driven by the 33-year-old woman, was southbound on Benson Road and failed to stop for the stop sign at US 10, according to Mason County sheriff’s deputies on the scene. The PT Cruiser collided with a Jayco Jay Flight travel trailer being pulled by a GMC Sierra pickup truck, driven by a 56-year-old Hamilton, Mich. man, who was eastbound on US 10 and attempting to make a left-hand turn onto Benson Road.

Initial dispatch information indicated that the PT Cruiser was on fire, but no fire was found when firefighters from Branch Township Fire Department arrived on scene. Custer Fire Department’s extrication unit was initially dispatched but canceled. Also responding to the scene was Life EMS ambulance, because initial dispatch information stated the female drive had minor injuries. She did not seek medical treatment, however.

Deputies performed a sobriety check on the female drive but the results were negative. She was then issued a citation for failure to stop at a stop sign. The PT Cruiser had severe damage to its front end and the travel trailer had some minor damage to its frame.
