CUSTER TOWNSHIP — A 41-year-old Baldwin man was arrested by Mason County sheriff’s deputies early Thursday morning, Sept. 1, at Indian River Bridge on South Reed Road shortly after midnight for allegedly pushing another man into the Pere Marquette River; punching him; and attempting to hold his head underwater, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole. “The incident began over a fishing dispute between the two men,” Cole said.

Other police activity Thursday includes:

  • 7:24 a.m., (MCSO), a 21-year-old Scottville man was arrested near Hogenson and Chauvez roads in Riverton Township on a charge of disorderly person after deputies responded to a report of a man beating on the caller’s door and wandering around in a field with no shirt or shoes on screaming incoherently, Cole said. “He was found by a deputy highly intoxicated lying face down in a field screaming at the ground,” Cole said.
  • 6 p.m., (MCSO), gas drive-off, $20.26 in fuel stolen, 100 block of East State Street —Scottville Shell, City of Scottville.
  • 8:10 p.m., (Michigan State Police), a 23-year-old Hart man was cited for operating without insurance, US 10 and Atkinson Drive, Amber Township.
  • 8:24 p.m., (MCSO), car/deer crash, no injuries, US 10 and Stephens Road, Custer Township.
