LUDINGTON — Fire destroyed the remains of the former Lakeshore Lumber building, 920 E. Tinkham Ave. early this morning. Ludington Fire Department and Ludington Police Department were dispatched to the building at 3:49 a.m. to find the building engulfed in flames.

The Lakeshore Resource Network, a nonprofit organization, just held a ceremonial groundbreaking of the building last week. The building’s new purpose was to serve as centralized resource center for those in need of food assistance and other basic needs. Much of the building had already been razed with the rest set for renovation. A portion of the property is also the future home of a new fire station.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and a Michigan State Police fire marshal has been called to investigate.
