#Western Michigan Fair

The 78th annual Western Michigan Fair officially opens Tuesday at 3 p.m. Judging for 4-H events already began Monday. Here are some photos from the sheep and dog agility competitions. Below, we re-posted the schedule.

Tuesday, Aug. 9:

Fair entrance: $1 . All rides: $1

  • 8 a.m.: Swine show
  • 8:30 a.m.: Craft judging (buildings not open until judging is done).
  • 10 a.m.: Horse show
  • 1 p.m.: Fair gates open
  • 3 p.m.: Midway opens
  • 4 p.m.: Goat show
  • 5 p.m.: West Shore Bank Family Buck Night, first 500 children through the gate receive a $1 bill.
  • 7 p.m.: Michigan Tractor & Truck Pull Drags, grandstand admission, $10.
  • 10 p.m.: Fireworks at the Grandstand, admission free for fair-goers. Hosted by MCP’s own Danny V.
  • 11 p.m.: Midway closes.

Wednesday, Aug. 10:

Kids Day: Fair entrance, $3 per person, ages 5 and under, free.

    8 a.m.: Poultry show

  • 9 a.m.: Dairy cattle show
  • 9 a.m.: Horse show
  • 11 a.m.: Fair gates open
  • Noon: Midway opens
  • Noon to 5 p.m.: Kids Day activities, bike drawing at grandstand
  • 5 p.m.: Ride wristbands, $15
  • 6 p.m.: Marek’s Music Makers, east side of Community Center
  • 6:45 p.m.: Western Michigan Fair Homemaker of the Year announced.
  • 7 p.m.: Super Kickers Rodeo, grandstand admission $12
  • 11 p..: Midway closes

Heros’ Celebration Day: Fair entrance, $3 per person, ages 5 and under free. All veterans and senior citizens admitted free, shuttle service from parking lot available.

  • 9 a.m.: Large animal sweepstakes
  • Noon to 2 p.m.: Special Kids’ Day; children eligible for this special event will be by invitation through the West Shore Educational Service District.
  • 1 p.m.: Jumping and Dressage clinic
  • 2 p.m.: Hay bale toss contest, 4-H Beef & Dairy Show Ring, free to fairgoers.
  • 3 p.m.: Midway opens, ride wristband, $20, $17 with coupon.
  • 4 to 11 p.m.: Read for Rides ticket holders
  • 5 p.m.: Mason County 4-H Small Animal Council Auction (chickens, turkeys, ducks, rabbits, goats, young beef). Half-time tribute to veterans.
  • 6:30 p.m.: West Michigan Livestock Council (beef, sheep and swine), 4-H Show/Sales Barn.
  • 7 p.m.: Western Michigan Old Engine Club Garden Tractor Pull, free admission to fairgoers
  • 11 p.m.: Midway closes

Friday, Aug. 12:

Fantastic Friday: Fair entrance $3 per person, ages 5 and under free.

  • 9 a.m.: Small animal sweepstakes
  • 10 a.m.: Fun equestrian games
  • Noon: Fair gates open
  • 3 p.m.: Midway opens
  • 5 p.m.: Pedal pull for kids, held in 4-H show/sale barn.
  • 6 p.m.: Horse and pony costume class
  • 7 p.m.: SJO Supercross, grandstand admission, $10; pit passes, $12
  • 11 p.m. Midway closes

Saturday, Aug. 13:

Fair finale. Fair entrance, $3 per person, ages 5 and under free

  • 8:30 a.m.: Fourth annual Stampede 5K Fun Run/Walk
  • 9 a.m.: Horse and pony costume class
  • 9 a.m.: Barn Brawl youth wrestling
  • 7 p.m.: Night of Destruction Demolition Derby, grandstand admission, $12; pit passes, $15
  • 11 p.m.: Midway closes.
