Rosemarie Ohse, 79, of Custer Township, died Saturday night as a result of injuries she sustained during a three vehicle crash at US 10-31 and Brye Road Thursday afternoon, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole. The sheriff’s office, along with the Michigan State Police, continue to investigate the crash that occurred when a 2007 Dodge minivan driven by Ohse, traveling south on Brye Road, entered the US 10-31 intersection and was struck by a westbound 2005 Cadillac Escalade pickup driven by Shane McDowell, 41, of Custer. As a result of the collision, a northbound 2005 Chrysler minivan, driven by Sharon Covarrubias, 41, of Mears, was struck as well, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

Ohse was transported by ambulance to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital and was then transported by AeroMed helicopter to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. Covarrubias was also transported by ambulance to the Ludington hospital where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries. McDowell was uninjured in the crash.

The crash shut down portions of US 10-31 for several hours Thursday afternoon. Investigators said they received conflicting stories from those involved in the crash and witnesses and have been asking anyone who may have seen the crash to contact them by calling Mason-Oceana 911.

Responding to the scene were Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Pere Marquette Township Fire Department, Ludington Fire Department and Life EMS.
