CUSTER TOWNSHIP — Two men were injured following a single vehicle crash that occurred early Sunday morning on Hansen Road between Tuttle and Custer roads. Deputies from Mason County Sheriff’s Office were initially dispatched to a report of a suspicious vehicle about 2:30 a.m. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the vehicle had been involved in a crash. According to a deputy on scene, the occupants were discovered in a nearby field; they had removed themselves from the vehicle after the crash, he said.

The Buick Regal was traveling east on Hansen Road and was driven by a 26-year-old Custer man. The vehicle left the roadway and traveled several hundred feet before flipping over and then landing back on its tires in a ditch on the north side of the road. Both the driver and his passenger, a 25-year-old Florida man, were transported by ambulance to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital. The driver was reported to have sustained severe injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.

Responding to the scene, in addition to the sheriff’s office, were Custer Township Fire Department, Pere Marquette Fire Department aerial truck (for investigation of the scene) and Life EMS ambulance. The crash remains under investigation.
