Local pilots offering free youth flights Saturday.

PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — The Mason County Pilots Association will offer its Young Eagles program on Saturday, July 9 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mason County Airport, located at 5300 W. US 10. Free airplane rides are being offered to children ages 8 to 17.

Local pilots are volunteering their time and planes for the event.  Some planes only hold one passenger, and others can accommodate up to three passengers.  Riders will be taken on a first come first serve basis.  

Over 200 children participated in the event in 2015.  Participants will receive a log book which the pilot will sign as well as a certificate. Kids are participated in the past are encouraged to bring their old log book.  

Rides are 10 to 15 minutes long and go over the Lake Michigan lakeshore.  In case of rain the event will be postponed until Sunday, July 10.
