SHERMAN TOWNSHIP — Jeremy Richard Sobers, 39, 3757 N. Reek Rd., Sherman Township, was arrested July 3 by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) on felony charges of assault by strangulation, domestic violence and two counts of resisting/opposing/obstructing police.

Sobers was arrested  after allegedly knocking a Mason County sheriiff’s deputy to the ground and repeatedly punching the deputy in the face and head, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

Sobers was initially arrested on two felony counts of of aggravated domestic violence – strangulation; two felony counts of assaulting police; two felony counts of resisting and opposing arrest; and one count of child abuse, Cole said.

Deputies were dispatched shortly before midnight to the 3700 block of North Reek Road following a 911 call of a domestic violence. “Upon arrival, the suspect was smashing windows out of a vehicle in the driveway and then reportedly fled on foot into the woods. He then turned on a pursuing deputy, knocking the deputy to the ground and repeatedly punched the deputy in the face and head. The suspect then assaulted a second deputy who was assisting on the call. Both deputies received minor injuries as a result of the assault.”

Sunday, July 3, 2016:

  • 12:43 p.m., (MCSO), a 15 year-old Ludington boy was injured when he pulled his moped into the path of a northbound vehicle. He was transported to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital for non-life threatening injuries, Jebavy Dr. and Johnson Rd., PM Township.
  • 1:45 p.m., (MCSO) two-vehicle crash, no injuries, US 10-31and Brye Rd., Amber Township.
  • 5:56 p.m., (MCSO), car/turkey crash, no injuries, Fountain and Tuttle roads, Sherman Township.

Tuesday, July 5, 2016:

  • 12:29 a.m., (MCSO), a 23-year-old Scottville man was arrested for possession of marijuana and malicious destruction of police property following a traffic stop. During the investigation, the suspect reportedly “slipped” the handcuffs from behind him to the front and damaged the inside of the patrol car, US 10 west of Meyers Rd., PM Township.
