PM assistant fire chief critical following Logan Twp. motorcycle crash.

LOGAN TWP. — Dennis Grant, 65, of Pere Marquette Township, is in critical condition this morning as a result of a motorcycle crash in southeastern Mason County Sunday afternoon. Dennis, who is the Pere Marquette Township assistant fire chief, was traveling south on Walhalla Road and was entering the eastbound Kinney Road curve when he lost control of his Yamaha motorcycle. His wife, Margaret “Peggy” Grant, 62, was also on the bike but only received minor injuries. Both were wearing helmets.

The crash occurred about 5 p.m. Sheriff Kim Cole said an off-duty Kent County sheriff’s deputy was the first to stop at the crash and began performing CPR on Dennis, who was later transported to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids by Northflight Aeromed helicopter, which is based in Traverse City. Cole said Dennis is on life support.

On scene were Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Bramch Twp. Fire Dept., Carr Area Fire Department and Life EMS. Pere Marquette Fire Department was also called for use of its aerial truck for the investigation.
The crash is being investigated.
