EDEN TWP. — Three people were injured following a two vehicle crash at the intersection of Custer and Hawley roads Monday afternoon. According to law enforcement on scene, the crash occurred about 3:30 p.m. when a Ford Edge crossover, driven eastbound on Hawley Road by a 22-year-old Coral, Michigan woman, apparently went through the intersection and collided with a Dodge Ram pickup truck that was northbound on Custer, driven by a Hesperia man (age was not available).

The Ford appeared to have rolled over several times before landing off the road about 50 feet from the intersection. The female driver of the Ford was ejected another 50 feet from her vehicle. The Dodge also left the roadway, about 75 feet from the intersection.

Brian Brosky, a Michigan Department of Natural Resources conservation officer lives nearby and heard the crash. He was off duty at the time. “It sounded like two semi trucks colliding,” Brosky said. “Since I’ve lived here I’ve seen many crashes at this intersection but non this bad.” Brosky said he immediately called Mason-Oceana 911 on his radio and then triaged the patients. He was initially unable to local the driver of the Ford, he said.

Spectrum Health’s AeroMed helicopter was called to the scene and the driver of the Ford was transported by air to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. She received serious injuries. The driver of the Dodge and his female passenger were taken to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital via Life EMS ambulance, their conditions are unknown.

The crash is being investigated by Michigan State Police Hart Post. Also on scene were Mason County Sheriff’s Office and Custer Fire Department.
