CUSTER — Mason County Eastern elementary students recently collected bottles of water for the residents of Flint. As a reward, the class that collected the most water, third grade taught by Scott Hansen, had a special visitor Thursday morning. Pediatrician Kari Leikert was read a book to the class about helping others. She also spoke about the dangers of lead in water and also in paint.

fit_club_mason_county_easternDr. Leikert’s appearance was part of the Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital Fit Club, held at all area schools; Leikert is a physician advisor for the program. The students, who collected the equivalent of 186 bottles of water, were also given a coloring book about the dangers of lead and also a box of crayons.
