CUSTER — Mason County Eastern elementary students recently collected bottles of water for the residents of Flint. As a reward, the class that collected the most water, third grade taught by Scott Hansen, had a special visitor Thursday morning. Pediatrician Kari Leikert was read a book to the class about helping others. She also spoke about the dangers of lead in water and also in paint.
Dr. Leikert’s appearance was part of the Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital Fit Club, held at all area schools; Leikert is a physician advisor for the program. The students, who collected the equivalent of 186 bottles of water, were also given a coloring book about the dangers of lead and also a box of crayons.
