The two children involved in a two vehicle crash last week on U.S. 10 are back home. Father Wayne Wheeler of St. Simon Church shared a posting on his Facebook page from a family member of 5-year-old Emmett VonSprecken and his 6-year-old sister Abigale. The post stated the children came home Saturday, after being at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital since the crash on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016.

“The are home settling in,” the post stated. “The family thanks everyone for their support and prayers. They ask at this time, that no one visits as the children need quiet and rest. There is a recovery plan in place under the direction of the doctors. Abby is scheduled for surgery back in Grand Rapids Tuesday morning. At this time all the family’s needs are being met. The family asks for continued prayers for a complete recovery from the injuries sustained in the accident.”

The crash occurred at 1:51 p.m. on Jan. 12 when a 1999 Ford pickup, driven by Timothy Genson, 48, of Amber Township, lost control while traveling westbound on US 10 and struck an eastbound 1999 Dodge minivan operated by Katey VonSprecken, 30, of Ludington. Katey and her 8-year-old son Owen were not injured.

It was snowing and blowing snow, and the roadway was snow covered and slippery at the time of the crash, and all occupants wore safety belts, the Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole said.
