benedicts_springstead_police 091415LUDINGTON — Deputies from Mason County Sheriff’s Office made several assault arrests over the holiday weekend, including an 80-year-old Amber Township man, assaults on sheriff’s office corrections officers and an assault at a local hotel. The following is a report of all activity of local law enforcement over the weekend. Unless indicated, the activity was from MCSO. Names are listed of suspects who have been arraigned.

Thursday, Dec. 31, 2015

  • 2:11 p.m.: Three vehicle crash, no injuries, U.S. 10 and Meyers Road, Pere Marquette Township.
  • 5 p.m.: Gas drive off of $5, Ludington EZ Mart, 5900 block of West U.S. 10, Pere Marquette Township.
  • 5:28 p.m.: Two vehicle crash, no injuries, U.S. 10 and U.S. 31, Amber Township.
  • 5:59 p.m.: Two vehicle hit and run crash, no injuries, U.S. 10-31 east of Brye Road, Amber Township.

Friday, Jan. 1, 2016

  • 12:39 a.m.: Disturbance 4900 block of West U.S. 10, P.M. Township. Assistance rendered.
  • 12:44 a.m.: A 59-year-old Ludington man was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated (high blood alcohol content) after his vehicle became stuck in a snow bank and caught fire in the 6700 block of Virnetta Drive, P.M. Township.
  • 2:30 a.m.: Shane Michale Hough, 32, of Muskegon, was arrested for assault after deputies were dispatched to a disturbance call at the Baymont Inn, 4000 block of West U.S. 10-31, Amber Township. Hough allegedly threw a “caution wet floor” sign, striking another person (not associated with him) in the head.  
  • 4:12 a.m.: Martin John Conway, 48, Scottville, was charged with assault on a corrections officer at the Mason County Jail. While in the jail, Conway became unruly and when approached by corrections deputies, he allegedly bit on deputy on the finger, drawing blood and spit on another deputy. Deputy Matt Murphy was treated and released for his injuries at Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital. Conway had been arrested by another law enforcement agency prior to arriving at the jail.
  • 4:15 a.m.: Two people were arrested, with an additional arrest warrant issued, following a hit and run crash at Dowagiac and Poplar roads, Free Soil Township. Deputies were dispatched to the crash and while responding the alleged driver returned and reportedly started damaging a residence and fighting with others there. The investigation resulted in the arrest of Allen Bruce Barnhardt, 21, Scottville for domestic assault and the arrest of Christopher Joseph Senkenske Jr., 20, Ludington, for assault and battery, damaged property and minor in possession. An arrest warrant has been requested from the Mason County Prosecutor’s Office for an 18-year-old Manistee woman after she fled from deputies during the investigation. In addition, minor in possession of alcohol citations were issued to a 17-year-old Manistee woman, an 18-year-old Manistee woman, a 19-year-old Ludington man and an 18-year-old Manistee man.
  • 9:16 a.m.: Teresa Ellen Brown, 43, Vanderbilt, was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, second offense, following a traffic stop at Rath Ave. and Haight St., City of Ludington.
  • 10:28 a.m.: Disturbance, 5900 block of West Sixth Street, P.M. Township. Assistance rendered.
  • 3:39 p.m.: James Franklin Stark, 80, Amber Township, was arrested for domestic assault following an incident in the 100 block of North Stiles Road, Amber Township.
  • 4:57 p.m.: Gas drive off of $20, 5900 block of West U.S. 10, Pere Marquette Township.
  • 5:57 p.m.: Car/deer crash, no injuries, Lakeshore Dr. and Plank Rd., P.M. Township.
  • 6:30 p.m.: Car/deer crash, no injuries, U.S. 10 and U.S. 31, Amber Township.
  • 7 p.m.: Car/deer crash, no injuries, Jebavy Dr. and Jagger Rd., Hamlin Township.
  • 9:06 p.m.: Car/deer crash, no injuries, U.S. 31 expressway near Meisenheimer Rd. overpass, Summit Township.
  • 11:53 p.m.: Car/deer crash, no injuries, U.S. 10-31 and Stiles Rd., Amber Township.

Jan. 2, 2016

  • 12:22 a.m.: Car/deer crash, no injuries, Meisenheimer and Hogenson roads, Riverton Township.
  • 1:03 a.m.: The Hart post of the Michigan State Police arrested a 27-year-old Ludington man for possession of marijuana; operating while intoxicated; and transporting open intoxicants, PM Hwy. near US 10, PM Township.
  • 2:11 a.m.: Robert James Adair, 31, Scottville, was arrested for OWI, fleeing and eluding a hit and run crash following a crash on U.S. 10 east of Meyers Rd., Amber Township. A deputy drove up on the hit and run crash that had just occurred and radioed the suspect vehicle description and direction of travel. A second deputy spotted the suspect vehicle and attempted a traffic stop in the City of Ludington. The vehicle fled and following a short chase, crashed into a snowbank. The vehicle reportedly struck had contained five occupants, none were injured.
  • 5 p.m.: Deputies have requested an arrest warrant for a 44-year-old man in the 6300 block of E. Kinney Road, Logan Township, for a sex offender violation. Deputies had been conducted checks on sex offender registers and found he had listed an address that does not exist.
  • 10:22 a.m.: Hit and run crash, no injuries, U.S. 10 and U.S. 31, Amber Township.
  • 10:44 p.m.: Car/deer crash, no injuries, Custer and Johnson roads, Custer Township.

Jan. 3, 2016

  • 3:07 p.m.: A 39-year-old Ludington man was arrested for a bond violation after deputies were dispatched to Stolberg and 20th Street in Sheridan Township, for a suspicious vehicle call.
  • 6:06 p.m.: Car/deer crash, no injuries, Fountain and Anderson roads, Victory Township.
  • 8:58 p.m.: Car/deer crash, no injuries, Stiles and Washington roads, Riverton Township.
