LUDINGTON — A new specialty store in downtown Ludington has been started to meet the shipping and packaging needs of businesses and the general public. That Shipping Place is the first business to debut at the new Eclectic Market Place multi-purpose building, 307 S. James St. It is owned and operated by Amanda Ohlson and Dan Vargas of Danny V Company.

Amanda said the business started after having conversations with local businesses.

“There was a common theme that a lot of businesses really didn’t want to deal with shipping,” Amanda said. “This may be because they do not have the personnel or want to stock the shipping materials or they just don’t find the hours of places like UPS or the post office to be convenient.”

That Shipping Place is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The store will accept items for shipping in all stages of packaging. “The customer can bring in the item or items and we can package it for them or they can bring in a package ready to ship,” Amanda said. “We will have UPS pick up here and if the customer misses the UPS pick up we will bring the items to the UPS terminal.”

The business will be offering a membership program that will provide a rate for frequent customers.

In addition to shipping through UPS, Federal Express and the postal service, That Shipping Place will also offer local courier service. Amanda said the courier service will most likely be provided between Mason, Manistee and Oceana counties. The store will also offer pick-up of packages in various local towns besides Ludington such as Scottville and Manistee.

That Shipping Place is one of several businesses that are scheduled for the Eclectic Market Place. The space, once occupied by Skoog Heating and Cooling, features several offices of various sizes, WiFi and utilities.

The Clean Queens cleaning service and Mason County Press Ludington office will also be located in the building.
