Husband, wife physicians begin practicing locally.

Dr. Teresa Kovas

LUDINGTON — The newest physicians serving Mason County and the surrounding area are pediatrician Teresa Kovas, MD and internist Bryan Kovas, MD. They moved to Ludington last month and are building a home locally.

Bryan and Teresa Kovas have developed parallel careers, managing to work in close proximity ever since medical school. The couple earned medical degrees from Wayne State University and each served a postgraduate residency in Milwaukee. They moved to Ludington from Lansing, where both were affiliated with Sparrow Hospital.

Dr. Teresa Kovas has joined Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine, 907 E. Tinkham Ave., where she works with fellow pediatricians Kari Leikert, DO, and Margaret “Tammy” Middlebrook, MD. She is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. While in Lansing she was a hospitalist pediatrician, treating young patients while they were hospitalized. Dr. Kovas is also on the faculty of Michigan State University as a clinical assistant professor in the department of pediatrics.

Dr. Bryan Kovas has joined Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital Internal Medicine–Ludington, previously known as Persson Internal Medicine, where he joins physician assistant Susan Persson, PA-C. Susan’s husband, long-time Ludington internist John Persson, MD, recently announced his retirement after some 30 years of practice in the area. One particular interest for Dr. Kovas within his specialty is preventative medicine.

The Kovas family includes their 4-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son.
