SCOTTVILLE — Jeff Tuka will likely become the next middle school principal at Mason County Central Schools. Superintendent Jeff Mount is recommending the board of education hire Tuka during its regular meeting Monday, August 19.

Tuka has worked for MCC since 2011 when he was hired as a teacher. After teaching for one year, his teaching position was eliminated but Tuka then took the role as the middle school’s student success specialist. Prior to working for MCC, he was a teacher at Journey High School, which was an alternative education program operated jointly by Ludington Area Schools and MCC.

Tuka is a graduate of MCC and recently accepted a position as an assistant principal at Mona Shores Schools near Muskegon. However, when the position at MCC came available, he was offered that job and accepted.

Current middle school principal Mark Olmstead recently accepted a position as the middle school principal at Shelby Public Schools. Mount said Olmstead will be missed at MCC but Shelby will be gaining a good leader.

“Jeff has proven his leadership capabilities and commitment to the district in other capacities as well, such as High School Focus School Committee, Varsity Basketball Coach and taking on the leadership role of the Scottville Youth Baseball/Softball Recreation Leagues,” Mount said in a memo to the board.
