Ludington Offshore Classic – Ludington

With pristine white sand beaches, a massive harbor and marinas located within walking distance of downtown, Ludington is a prime location for this epic Great Lakes sport fishing tournament. Drawing nearly a thousand participants, the Ludington Offshore Classic offers five competitions throughout the weekend including the Ruboy Thursday, the Youth Tournament, the Ladies Pro/Am and Big Fish, the Pro/Am Tournament and the Big Fish Tournament. Presented by the Kaleva Lions Club, the village of Kaleva will be hosting its annual Kaleva Days community festival this weekend. Events include live music in the park, classic car and tractor shows, a pie eating contest, euchre tournament, hay rides and even a wife carrying contest! It’s the second FNL of the summer and is bound to be another great time. This week’s event will feature the musical stylings of Harvey, SoundIsRed, Fine Wine Reduction and Erica Nicole Music. Also this week, thanks to the Mason County Pilots Association, a number of planes will be on display for an up-close look at aviation. Be sure to check out the Lakeshore Parrot Head’s Pirate Ship, the Western Michigan Fair’s 4-H Zoo, pony rides, numerous vendor booths and of course, the Baby Badger! Visit downtown Ludington for another community celebration in the streets!

Running with our Soldiers 5K – Manistee

Saturday, July 18, 2015, 7a.m. – 11a.m.

A fundraiser for the Soldiers and Families of Bravo Troop 1-126th CAV of the Michigan Army National Guard, this years run will be in memory of fallen Bravo brother, Sgt. Michael Nafe, aka Superman. Starting at the National Guard Armory in Manistee, registration for the 5K begins at 7a.m. with the runners race at 8:15a.m., and a 1 mile walk for non-runners beginning at 8:30a.m. The entry fee is $30 and will include a goodie bag while supplies last. Also this year, area businesses will be donating raffle drawing items. Participants are invited and encouraged to wear their favorite superhero garb. Support the troops and run with the soldiers!

The 8th Buccaneer Bash – Ludington

Ahoy, matey! Join the Lakeshore Parrot Head Club at the Ludington Boat Club for an evening of live music, a food and beverage tent, a silent auction and many fun activities! The Lakeshore Parrot Head Club is a non-profit organization brought together by friendship, a love for the tropical lifestyle and the laid-back musical stylings of Jimmy Buffet. Dressed in full pirate attire, these buccaneers give pirates a good name, volunteering and making appearances at numerous local and regional charitable events. The Buccaneer Bash has become the largest fundraising event for the group, with all proceeds donated to The Alzheimer’s Association, Great Lakes Chapter. Dust off your tricorn hat, practice your best “ARRRGH!” and don’t forget to bring your booty for this fun filled community party!

The 59th annual Troutarama includes a variety of small town festival events. Thursday’s midway opens at 3 p.m. with the Little King and Queen contest at 5:30 p.m. Tonight the Scottville Clown Band performs in the beer tent. The grand parade is Saturday at 1 p.m. See more here.
